This was said in Durban yesterday by CEO of the LOC Danny Jordaan. Hesaid Cosatu had asked them to make sure that any material that was used, from caps to T-shirts, was locally made.
"No cheap or fake caps or T-shirts will be allowed. Whatever material that we will be using will be home-made because, as a country, we are capable of producing the real stuff," he said.
Jordaan also said no "ambush marketing" would be allowed during the tournament. He also revealed that street children would not be whisked off the streets around the country during the soccer tournament.
"As a country, let's not be ashamed of the poor; rather, we should address issues that lead them to be in that state."
He urged South Africans to show solidarity with the rest of the continent by supporting other African teams. "Let's support Africa's six pack," he said, referring to six African teams that will participate in the World Cup.
"We have been accused in the past of not showing solidarity with the continent, and we need to change that and rally behind other African teams." - Canaan Mdletshe
