A brave man

WE MOURN the death of a brave fighter who put South Africa on the map.

WE MOURN the death of a brave fighter who put South Africa on the map.

Simon "Tsipa" Skosana had a firm boxing following, who were delighted by his prowess in the ring. He often predicted he would knock out opponents in the seventh round, and kept his word.

He came within a round of winning a world title and would probably had won one had he been given another chance.

Tsipa did not complain but swallowed the pain caused by unfair officials. He was soft-spoken and a gentleman in and outside the ring.

He did not give up the sport after he hung up his gloves. Instead he trained youngsters in a bid to keep them off the street.

During his heyday Skosana filled our sports pages with his clinical and scientific duels.

Go well, Bra Tsipa, you will remain a champ.
