Ehlanzeni gets 3 pitches

THE Ehlanzeni District Municipality in Nelspruit will commence with the laying of artificial pitches in three stadiums in three municipalities next month.

THE Ehlanzeni District Municipality in Nelspruit will commence with the laying of artificial pitches in three stadiums in three municipalities next month.

Mduduzi Nkosi, EDM deputy manager of programmes and support, said laying of the artificial pitches was expected to begin in April but was postponed due to the recession.

"Everything has been sorted out. Tenders were advertised and suitable bidders have been identified. What's left now is the job on the ground to commence," he said.

The communities that are going to benefit from the EDM 2010 World Cup legacy project are Emjindini Stadium (Umjindi), Kamhlushwa (Nkomazi) and Mkhuhlu (Bushbuckridge). Nkosi said the aim of the legacy project is to ensure that all communities under the EDM benefit from the coming 2010 World Cup event even long after it has gone. He said EDM also assisted in the renovations of KaNyamazane and KaBokweni stadiums.

The two stadiums will be used as official World Cup training grounds by teams that will be playing their games at Mbombela Stadium.

The addition of the three artificial pitches will add to the only one existing in the province - at Thulamahashe Stadium in Bushbuckridge. Thulamahashe, which is situated in the Bohlabela District Municipality, recently underwent a major face-lift to the tune of R1,8million, which included the fitting of artificial turf.
