NINE Atteridgeville police officers have been arrested for the alleged murder of a 19-year-old boy accused of stealing cash from his home on Monday.

Superintendent Noxolo Kweza of Gauteng provincial police said an inspector and eight student constables were arrested.

Kweza said a resident of Vergenoeg informal settlement reported that his house had been burgled and he suspected his son. He reported this at Saulsville satellite police station at about 8pm.

The son was brought to the station where police questioned him about the missing R1700. They allegedly assaulted him with a hosepipe.

The father then took his son home and at about 7am yesterday, he realised that his son was experiencing difficulty in breathing and he later died.
