'Stop political games'

The IFP has accused the ANC of playing political games with the residents of Thokoza hostel in Ekurhuleni while doing nothing to improve their quality of life.

The IFP has accused the ANC of playing political games with the residents of Thokoza hostel in Ekurhuleni while doing nothing to improve their quality of life.

The IFP's outcry follows the visit by Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale to the hostel at the weekend, when decried the fact that 15 years after the advent of democracy living conditions in the now dilapidated hostel had not changed.

IFP member of the provincial legislature Kheth'amabala Sithole questioned whether Sexwale's visit would make any difference to the lives of hostel dwellers.

"When the minister was still Gauteng premier he visited this hostel. In 2003 Paul Mashatile, then MEC for housing, also visited Thokoza hostel but nothing was done. Sexwale did not mention his plan about the informal settlements around the hostel.

"The ANC must just stop playing political games with people's lives and do the right thing," Sithole said.
