GAUTENG police are still searching for four notorious "Razor Gang" awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the Wynberg magistrate's court last week.

Police spokesperson Julia Claassen said nine men overpowered a security guard who had gone to open a gate at the holding cells and escaped before they could appear in court.

Police are remaining mum as to why the men were not shackled.

The nine-member gang, dubbed the Razor Gang after the alleged leader Raymond "Razor" Zulu, is allegedly responsible for a host of violent crimes including housebreaking, rape and armed robberies in the Sandton area.

Four of the men were rearrested on the same day while another turned himself in to the police. - Mfundekelwa Mkhulisi
