Man fails in suicide bid after stabbing wife with knife

A LIMPOPO man ran amok and attempted to take his own life after allegedly stabbing his wife several times with a knife.

A LIMPOPO man ran amok and attempted to take his own life after allegedly stabbing his wife several times with a knife.

The man is now fighting for his life at Lebowakgomo Hospital after he "intentionally"crashed his car into a tree in a suicide bid.

Lebowakgomo police spokesperson Inspector Manong Tshehla yesterday said the man had visited his wife, a nurse at St Ritas Hospital, in Nebo.

The couple had allegedly been involved in a domestic quarrel before the incident. The man, who is also a nurse, allegedly took out a knife and stabbed his wife several times and left her for dead.

Thinking that she was dead, the man then fled the scene in his Toyota Tazz.

While driving along the Lebowakgomo road towards Polokwane, he allegedly decided to commit suicide by crashing his car into a tree along the road.

He crashed into the tree and broke both his legs.

"Because of the manner in which the accident happened, we believe he could have been driving at 180km/h," Tshehla said.

Tshehla advised couples experiencing problems in their relationship to seek professional help.

Officials at St Ritas Hospital yesterday described the woman's condition as "stable and satisfactory".
