'We beat Chiefs before the game'

MARITZBURG United coach Gordon Igesund was not surprised by his side's 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match at Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

He went into this match knowing Amakhosi's flaws after watching the latter's encounter against Bidvest Wits who beat Vladmir Vermozovic's by the same score line.

"I watched that match and I managed to identify Chiefs' weaknesses and strengths and I knew that we will beat them. So I was not surprised that we ended on the winning side on Saturday," Igesund said.

Igesund is the only coach in the PSL to have won four league titles with four different teams.

United's win over Amakhosi lifted the side to second spot on the log with eight points from five outings.

Chiefs, who find themselves bottom of the log this morning, have only managed one win in five outings.

A visibly disappointed Vermozovic said the players failed to stick to what they normally do at training.

"They were a different team than the one I manage at training. Some of my players forget everything we do at training and do the opposite at matches. I don't mind losing but I want my players to put up a fight and lose with dignity," said the Serbian mentor.

But he believes his team will make amends at Platinum Stars' expense in Rustenburg tomorrow at 19.30pm.

Chiefs have gone 270 minutes without scoring in the refurbished Orlando Stadium.
