LONDON- Dean Richards, the former Harlequins director insisted yesterday that the faking of injuries was widespread in rugby union.
Richards was banned for three years following his role in a cheating scandal which took place during Harlequins' European Cup quarterfinals against eventual champion Leinster after wing Tom Williams was given a blood capsule and told to feign injury at the Twickenham on April 12.
Richards told Britain's News of the World: "If guys came out and spoke honestly about it, everybody knows that it goes on.
"Yes we did wrong, we used a blood capsule. I'm quite comfortable saying that we did do that.
"It's not just in England, it's across the world. Tana Umaga was playing for New Zealand in the 1999 World Cup when he said things like that were going on.
Richards, who has no formal qualifications, said the length of his ban had cost him his career in rugby union. - AFP
