THE former heads of the two most crucial portfolios in the Mpumalanga government will be called to testify about the "mess" that happened under their noses.
Raymond Tywakadi and Confidence Moloko, the former HODs of the education and health departments, respectively, are accused of failing their departments.
Fish Mahlalela, chairperson of the select committee on public accounts (Scopa), on Friday ordered that both Moloko and Tywakadi be called in to account for the "mess" in their departments.
Moloko is now the adviser to Deputy Health Minister Molefi Sefularo and Tywakadi is at Wits University.
Earlier last week the committee heard that Tywakadi failed to implement recommendations by Prieska Nyoni and Associates, who were investigating the pupil transport saga.
Tywakadi was asked to suspend officials Mandla Chauke, Willem Kotze, Thomas Maputle and Sipho Thwala, but refused.
This after pupil transport costs in the province doubled from R80m to R160m in a year.
It was only after former premier Thabang Makwetla reshuffled his cabinet that the new MEC, Mmathulare Coleman, suspended the four.
But they were later reinstated after Tywakadi allegedly failed to cooperate with investigators.
"We can't allow these officials to go scot-free simply because they are no longer here.
"They must account for their mess," said Mahlalela after the new head of the education department, Mahlasedi Mhlabane, and new head of the health department, Johnson Mahlangu, failed to answer questions posed by Scopa.
