It is well known by now that the two main contenders for the presidency Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan are, to put it mildly, not the best of friends.
They have, however, been able to put whatever personality differences they might have aside and have done well with the task of organising the hosting of the Fifa World Cup next year.
It is a feather in their cap that we hosted a successful Confederations Cup and there is no doubt that we will come out of next year's football showpiece smelling of roses.
But all that is dependent on the two being able to continue placing the interests of South Africa and of football ahead of their own.
A bruising battle for the Safa presidency that is already waging will make this nigh impossible.
Safa's excuse for not postponing elections solely because their constitution is silent on the matter rings hollow. The constitution is not the 10 commandments but rather a work of human intelligence and should serve those who created it rather than jail them.
Fifa has expressed itself on why it thinks the elections need to be postponed. We support their thinking. If Safa has a better reason than that one of their documents says they cannot, they should then say so.
