'Robber' cop in 2nd bid for bail

A POLICE constable arrested for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm appeared in the Atteridgeville magistrate's court yesterday.

Constable Lucas Phetla, 44, was applying for bail for the second time after his initial bid failed in May. His defence said he is now suffering from tuberculosis and needs medical attention.

Phetla was arrested at his home in Mamelodi after one of his three alleged accomplices, Inspector Makgado Galane, 42, was caught by angry Erasmia residents after he was left by the getaway car. - Abram Mashego
