Woman raped and robbed at home

QUICK response by the police yesterday led to the arrest of two men who had allegedly raped a woman in her home in Renishaw on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

The 46-year-old woman was robbed and raped while at her home on Monday morning.

The victim told the police that she was hanging out the day's washing when the two men accosted her. One was armed with a gun and the other with a knife.

The men dragged her into the house and demanded firearms.

Police spokesperson Vincent Pandarum said the man armed with a gun, who was wearing a balaclava, forced the women on to the bed and raped her. His accomplices ransacked the house.

Pandarum said the men tied the woman's hands and feet and locked her up in a cupboard.

"The victim heard a relative's car hoot, kicked open the cupboard door and freed herself.

"An acquaintance took her to the GJ Crookes Hospital in Scottburgh. The rape and robbery incident was reported to police."

Pandarum said the woman managed to describe the suspects to the police, who immediately launched an intensive search.

The police later arrested the men and recovered stolen items.
