Scots need McFadden

SCOTLAND skipper Darren Fletcher believes one of his teammates can emerge from the shadow of James McFadden to become a national hero against Holland at Hampden today.

SCOTLAND skipper Darren Fletcher believes one of his teammates can emerge from the shadow of James McFadden to become a national hero against Holland at Hampden today.

The Scots will be without the suspended McFadden against the Dutch after he was booked during Saturday's 2-0 win over Macedonia. As well as picking up a yellow card, the talismanic striker scored a wonder goal to seal the victory to give his country a fighting chance of making the play-offs for next summer's World Cup.

He has scored 15 times for Scotland, including winners against France and Holland, and Fletcher is praying someone can step up to the mark in his absence. He said: "James will be a massive loss for us but we have guys that can replace him."

Holland have already sealed their place in next summer's World Cup, having won seven out of their Group Nine qualifiers, including a comfortable 3-0 win in the reverse fixture against Scotland in Amsterdam. - Sapa-AFP
