A LOT has been placed on his shoulders this season, but Platinum Stars coach Steve Komphela is not fazed by the prospect of being a victim of his own success.

At the beginning of the season, Komphela's move to Stars was riddled with controversy and speculation over wages and a behind-the- scenes tug of war between Stars and at least one other high-profile club.

But he chose a team perceived by many as ill-disciplined and mediocre.

In the pre-season there were signs that the partnership would work, though the Tycoons have not replicated the same form in the Premiership, with just one win in four matches.

"I am actually not surprised about where we are right now," Komphela said.

"Lots of positive signs are there. Norikazu Murakami has his work permit and we should be able to field him. And frankly, our biggest challenge is who to select.

"Goals have been scarce but I remain confident that as long as we score during practice matches, we are good. The level of confidence is high and for me, you can only really tell after the sixth match where you are likely to end."

As for their coming date with Mpumalanga Black Aces, Komphela's optimism is tinged with some caution.

"They are not easy customers: they have a good, solid midfield and defend very well. But we know how they operate and will be on our toes," he said.
