ORLANDO Pirates' brilliant start to the season has not gone unnoticed. Coach Ruud Krol and club captain Benson Mhlongo walked away yesterday with the coach and player of the month awards.

The coaches' award does not carry any financial incentives, while Mhlongo received a cheque of R10000 that was collected by club administrator Floyd Mbele on behalf of Mhlongo, who is in Europe with Bafana Bafana.

Krol said of Mhlongo: "He works hard for the team and it was not easy for him because together with the other players, he had a very short break after the Confederations Cup.

"We didn't start well last season and we said we would try to start well this season, and so far I'm happy. It's nice being on top, but I would prefer to be on top at the end of the season," Krol said.

Pirates have so far won three of their four matches and are on top of the log. Krol praised Mhlongo for being the driving force behind the dream start.

Teko Modise could make a return in Bucs' away clash against MTN8 finalists Lamontville Golden Arrows on Saturday.
