His record company, Gallo, said the album had already sold more than 28000 copies.

He received the Best Afro-Pop album award at a sizzling performance for the SABC music show Afro Café at the Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City.

Sharing the stage with him were Lira, Mimi, Zama Jobe and the Jaziel Brothers.

The musicians brought the house down and had the fans eating out of their hands and shouting for more.

People from all walks of life helped produce Kgosinkwe's album.

They include a virtually unknown songwriter from Eastern Cape, Fololo Malizole.

"It is great to have these kinds of friends in the entertainment business.

"I asked them to come and support me and they willingly agreed," said a beaming Kgosinkwe.

"I feel like I needed to be free to do things the way I wanted them to be done on the album and it all worked out.

"People will now get to know the real Theo," promised Kgosinkwe.

His solo album earned him his prestigious award at this year's South African Music awards.
