ONE person was killed and at least 30 injured when a grenade exploded in a crowd celebrating a win by the Colombian national football team, police said on Saturday.

Antioquia state police commander Colonel Luis Eduardo Martinez said three of the injured were in a serious condition. The blast took place on Saturday night in central Medellin, Colombia's second-largest city, after the national team beat Ecuador 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

Martinez said the cause of the explosion was not known, but police think a reveller may have accidentally detonated the grenade by mishandling it. Police ruled out a terrorist attack.
