Woman held for abortion

A WOMAN has been arrested for allegedly aborting her unborn foetus in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal police said yesterday.

A WOMAN has been arrested for allegedly aborting her unborn foetus in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal police said yesterday.

"Residents in Umlazi informed the police that the 33-year-old woman was allegedly trying to abort her baby after she fell sick on Wednesday," said Inspector Buhle Ngidi.

Ngidi said the woman, who had been eight months pregnant, was at the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi under police guard.

"It's unclear why she wanted to abort her unborn child. Police believe that she took a dose of pills and fell sick afterwards," Ngidi said.

The woman was due to appear in court to face a charge of concealment of birth after she has recovered. - Sapa
