RAND Aid, a nonprofit organisation that looks after the aged and substance abusers, and has been operating since 1903, will be holding a golf day.

The annual event will take place on November 5 at the Modderfontein Golf Course.

The centre's general manager: compliance, Ayanda Matthews, said: "The event has been running for five years and the most we have raised was R100000 last year.

"This year we hope to raise R300000. We really need the money because, apart from the government subsidy, we haven't got any sponsors.

"The other reason is that we have moved to Lombardy East and the new place needs work."

She said running the centre was a very demanding job.

"One of our biggest challenges is to keep our staff happy. The other is that some families never visit their loved ones, who get very frustrated and take it out on the nurses."
