Heading this pre-spring flagship event of the 2009 Joburg Arts Alive International Festival is Senegal's Omar Pene - backed by Super Diamono.
Adding to the international flavour is Susheela Raman, who is joining the line-up as part of the festival's partnership with the Shared History Festival: The Indian Experience in South Africa.
Raman was nominated for the UK's Mercury Music Prize in 2001 for her album Salt Rain, and has emerged as one of the most compelling Indian artists working today. She is based in the United Kingdom.
The Brazilian 17-piece SpokFevro Orquestra rounds off the international element of Jazz on the Lake.
The band's big jazz sound is sure to get everyone jiving!
The homegrown line-up is a potent one, starting with ex-Sankomota leader and gospel soloist Tsepo "The Village Pope" Tshola.
Also adding an Afro-soul flavour to the event is Selaelo Selota, who released his studio album Lapeng Laka early this year, similar to Selota's 2000 debut album, Painted Faces.
Zuluboy, another top act, is set to inject super-charged hip-hop energy to the festival.
An exciting addition to the concert is the Standard Bank Young Artists Jazz Trio, comprising Concord Nkabinde, Kesivan Naidoo and Mark Fransman, all of them winners of the Standard Bank Young Artist award for Jazz.
Rounding off the local line-up are the exciting Xolisa Dlamini and Tebogo Moloto.
The concert begins at 10am and ends at 5pm.
The organisers warn that anyone arriving with "alcohol, drugs or weapons" will not be allowed access to the venue.
The public should note that there will be road closures in the area around Zoo Lake, with an outer and inner cordon in place (see map).
There will also be park 'n ride areas from Marks Park and Wits University.
Residents living within the barricaded area will receive two permits per household. These are available from the Zoo Lake Sports Club between 7am and 8pm daily until tomorrow.
Residents are asked to be in possession of an ID document and electricity account when collecting their passes.
