THE ANC is finally removing a local muni-cipal mayor following two months of violent service delivery protests.

Thaba Chweu muni-cipality executive mayor Clara Ndlovu will be removed from office within 10 days.

The move, which was tabled by the ANC and seconded by the Democratic Alliance, follows an internal ANC decision and a new spate of unrest in the area.

Ndlovu has for the past few weeks been on "special leave".

Municipal speaker Joseph Pooe is acting as executive mayor, while Nduna Mashego acts as speaker.

For about two months now, residents of Mashishing in Lydenburg have staged a series of demonstrations demanding, among other things, Ndlovu's resignation.

The local offices of the South African Social Security Agency and part of the local police barracks were set alight during the protest.

The ANC said yesterday that Thaba Chweu council should strive for peace and stability because children were not attending school due to the unrest.
