JSC sitting postponed over death

THE Judicial Service Commission interviews of candidates for vacancies in the Constitutional Court have been postponed, the JSC said yesterday.

THE Judicial Service Commission interviews of candidates for vacancies in the Constitutional Court have been postponed, the JSC said yesterday.

"The JSC sitting that was scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7 has been postponed at the request of commissioners due to the passing away of Mrs B Langa, who is the wife of the chief justice of South Africa and chairperson of the JSC," a statement read.

Chief Justice Pius Langa's wife, Beauty, died on Sunday after a long illness, shortly before her 65th birthday.

The new dates for interviews are from September 20 to 22 at Kliptown, Soweto in Johannesburg.

Cape Judge President John Hlophe, who was recently cleared by the JSC of gross misconduct charges, is one of the nominees to be interviewed for four vacancies in the Constitutional Court on that date. He returns to work on Monday.

The JSC received a total of 28 nominations for the four vacancies. - Sapa
