THE purchasing managers index crept higher in August, a survey showed yesterday, hinting at a forthcoming tentative recovery in the ailing manufacturing sector.

THE purchasing managers index crept higher in August, a survey showed yesterday, hinting at a forthcoming tentative recovery in the ailing manufacturing sector.

The August PMI rose to 39,3 on a seasonally adjusted basis in August compared with 37,3 in July, sponsor Kagiso Securities said.

The key measure of manufacturing activity remains below the key 50,0 level. - Reuters
