Woman stabbed by madman

ANOTHER woman has been stabbed by a mentally disturbed man in Pietermaritzburg.

ANOTHER woman has been stabbed by a mentally disturbed man in Pietermaritzburg.

This is the second incident of this kind in KwaZulu-Natal's capital city in two weeks.

ER 24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said a 55-year-old woman was stabbed on the corner of Berg and Retief streets.

"When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the woman seated on the side of the road with a single stab wound to her body," Banks said.

"It is believed that the man ran up to the woman, who was walking with a friend, and stabbed her once before running away."

Banks said what shocked them was when the woman refused further treatment and opted to consult her traditional healer.

"ER24 were able to stabilise the patient and were about to leave when the patient refused further treatment and opted to consult her traditional healer," Banks said.

"Paramedics pleaded with the patient to go to a hospital for further treatment because they were not sure if the stab wound had damaged any vital organs.

"She refused and left the scene to find her traditional healer," Banks said.

A fortnight ago Nompumelelo Ndlovu, 21, who was pregnant, was walking with her friend, Nokuthula Mo-hloung, when they were attacked by a mentally disturbed man who bludgeoned her to death with an iron pipe.

Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said Ndlovu was attacked by an adult male who was gathering scrap metal on the side of the road.

"The deceased was severely beaten about the head, causing it to split.

"The friend managed to escape and stopped a passing police patrol vehicle that came to her assistance," Bud-hram said

"On apprehending the suspect he attacked the police officers who were forced to shoot at him to restrain him."
