U-18s pass French test

ERIC Sauls, coach of the South African Under-18 national rugby team, believes a number of his players are good enough to represent the national Under-20s at the IRB World Junior Championships.

ERIC Sauls, coach of the South African Under-18 national rugby team, believes a number of his players are good enough to represent the national Under-20s at the IRB World Junior Championships.

He was commenting at the end of the last of three international friendlies - a convincing 39-6 victory over France in Cape Town at the weekend. In the first two, South Africa routed Namibia 93-10 and the French team 39-3.

Sauls was pleased with the way the players stuck to the basics that were taught during the last few days at the High Performance Centre camp.

"It's three international friendly victories out of three, so I am extremely happy with the performance of the guys today.

"I was particularly impressed with the way our forwards stood up to the French and our talented backs also showed their class. There are many good, talented players in this country."
