Rapetsoa says the idea is to revive the culture of theatre in townships and among the youth.
The Paul Rapetsoa Institute of Dramatic Arts (Prida) will hold a drama festival at the Honeymoon Lodge (formerly Naledi Cinema) in Seshego this weekend.
The festival is scheduled to start at 10am on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is R30.
"The aim of holding this drama festival in the township is to bring back the culture of theatre to the townships and the youth," Rapetsoa says.
He says participants will come from the University of Johannesburg (Soweto Campus), Tshwane University of Technology (Polokwane Campus), Tshwane University of Technology (Witbank campus), Prida (Siyabuswa Campus) and Prida (Seshego Campus) to showcase their acting talents.
"This move will also encourage up-and-coming writers to start developing their themes," he says.
Rapetsoa, who is a seasoned campaigner in the theatre, says he will also feature plays such as Get Down and Our Cry.
He will also present the latest, revamped Can't Wait, which will be staged for the very first time in Limpopo.
He says he expects many directors and producers of stage productions and films to attend.
"By holding a festival of this magnitude we are creating a pool of actors from which producers and directors will be able to draw new talent," he says.
Rapetsoa explains that they intended making the festival an annual event and that more institutions and organisations will be invited from next year.
"We are inviting potential actors and writers to attend the festival in their numbers this weekend because this is where they will gain sound advice to take their talents to another level," Rapetsoa says.
