THE SABC board is expected to make a final decision tomorrow on who will replace Snuki Zikalala as head of news.

THE SABC board is expected to make a final decision tomorrow on who will replace Snuki Zikalala as head of news.

Zikalala's contract was not renewed by the old board, which was headed by Khanyi Mkonza, early this year.

There were nine nominations for the post, which were whittled down to four. The four will be interviewed tomorrow by the interim board.

A source at the SABC said the board wants to conclude the appointment before its mandate runs out.

The candidates are:

l Phil Molefe, a veteran SABC staffer who is current acting head of news and current affairs. He was also once the political editor at the SABC. He has been criticised for being too soft on politicians.

l Pippa Green is a former government spokesperson and head of SABC Radio.

She was recently shortlisted for the Alan Paton Award for her biography of Trevor Manuel.

l Jimmy Mathews is an old hand at the SABC and was once head of news.

l Abbey Makoe is a former political editor at the SABC.

Makoe said he had declined the nomination.

A source said the board would probably give the job to Molefe because of his long association with the SABC.
