dE kOCK STABLE SWEEPS AWARDS

THE Mike de Kock stable dominated Gold Circle's KwaZulu-Natal racing awards held at Greyville Racecourse before the weekend.

Woolavington 2000 winner and Vodacom Durban July runner-up Zirconeum was crowned Horse of the Year as well as three-year-old Filly of the Year.

Other awards that went to the De Kock yard were two-year-old filly Laverna, two-year-old gelding Musir, three-year-old colt Forest Path, while stable jockey Anthony Delpech walked away with the leading jockey award. Groom of the Year went to Daniel Xabenblini, who tends to Zirconeum.

To crown it all, De Kock also took the Ernie Duffield Floating Trophy for the KwaZulu-Natal trainer with the most winners, having edged out Dennis Drier in the last few meetings of the season.

Drier's charge Sharks Bay was voted Sprinter of the Year.

Breeder of the Year went to the Scott Brothers, whose runners amassed the most stakes earned in KwaZulu-Natal during the 2008/09 racing season.

l KZN 2-year-old colt/gelding: Musir

l KZN 3-year-old filly: Zirconeum

l KZN 3-year-old colt/gelding: Forest Path

l KZN older filly/mare: Prestic

l KZN older colt/gelding: Tropical Empire

l KZN sprinter: Sharks Bay

l KZN stayer: Goat

l KZN Apprentice Jockey of the Year: Karis Teetan

l KZN Jockey of the Year: Anthony Delpech

l KZN Breeder of the Year: Scott Brothers

l KZN Trainer of the Year: Mike De Kock

l Anita Akal Special Award: George Rowles

l KZN Owner of the Year: Mrs I & Mr MJ Jooste

l KZN Horse of the Year: Zirconeum

l KZN Groom of the Year: Daniel Xabenblini.
