LIMPOPO pupil Pretty Mahlabane is part of a team of volleyball players that will represent South Africa during an international championship in Swaziland this weekend.

This after the 17-year-old from Sekgosese outside Modjadjiskloof was selected at an inter-provincial volleyball championship held in Durban recently. She will take part in the Confederation of Southern African Schools Sports Association (Cosassa) Games in Swaziland from Friday to Saturday.

At a farewell function held by the Greater Letaba municipality the mayor City Modjadji and locals praised Mahlabane.

Mohlabane, who attends Lephai High School at Thakgalane village, was also showered with gifts that included sport kits.

The mayor wished Mahlabane well on her mission to represent the country at the weekend.

"The country expects a gold medal from Pretty Mahlabane, to add to what Caster Semenya and Mbulaeni Mulaudzi have done for the country," Modjadji said.

Mahlabane left on Saturday to go to Pretoria for camp, before the team jets out for Swaziland this week before the start of the tournament.

Before leaving for Pretoria, Mahlabane told Sowetan that it felt great to be part of a team representing South Africa in the championships.
