MANDRAX worth R200million was seized after police raided a Midrand home on Saturday, the police's Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations said.

"Forensics have estimated that the value of the drugs that were being manufactured at a street value of R200million," the directorate's spokesperson Musa Zondi said.

He said equipment seized was worth about an additional R2million.

Zondi said members of the organised crime unit had been tailing a man who was suspected of robberies.

"After hours of surveillance, they pounced on the house," Zondi said.

He said when they searched the premises they found the garage had been converted into a Mandrax production line.

A Wendy house was used as a storeroom for chemicals used in the manufacturing of the drugs. Packaging was also done on site.

"It seems the enterprise has been in operation for three years and the drugs were destined for markets in the sub-region," Zondi said.

The owner of the house was arrested. - Sapa
