THE retail price of all grades of petrol will go up 36c a litre on Wednesday, the energy department said on Friday.

The price hike may prove just one blow too many to SA's already struggling workers and consumers, United Association of SA has said.

The department of energy also said that the wholesale price of diesel with a 0,05percent sulphur content would increase by 35c a litre, while diesel with a 0,005percent sulphur content would cost 36c a litre more.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin would rise 21c a litre and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin by 28c a litre.

The energy department said the price hikes came mainly on the back of increases in the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin between July 31 and August 27.

The increases brought the Gauteng retail prices of 95 ULP to R8,05, and 93 ULP and LRP to R7,88. - Sapa
