THE strike at Impala Platinum's Rustenburg mine will continue into a fourth day, the company and the union said yesterday.

"It's unlikely that there'll be a return to work on Thursday [today] as we're still in discussions," Impala Platinum's spokesperson Bob Gilmour said.

About 20000 National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members at the world's largest platinum mine began striking on Monday.

This followed their rejection of an agreement between the NUM and Impala Platinum for a 10percent wage increase.

NUM spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka confirmed that talks were ongoing.

"Even if there is an agreement later on there will be no work at Rustenburg mine on Thursday." - Sapa
