The squad comprises 25 men and 17 women. Speaking on behalf of Central Gauteng Athletics, James Moloi said most of those selected are juniors.
"We don't want to destroy them by having them run the 21 or 42km.
"Without disrespecting the other athletes who have not been selected, we have decided to go for quality instead of quantity," he said. "Everything has been 100 percent.
"Lebo Phalula, the defending champion, will face stiff competition, but I cannot say from which province as all the athletes are capable of giving her a run for her money. I'm confident that she will do well. We can only hope that our athletes will make us proud and bring home some medals."
