GAY socialite and singer Amstel Makwane will help musicians through his latest win.

GAY socialite and singer Amstel Makwane will help musicians through his latest win.

Named the face of Zambezi Lounge, the Afro-pop 3Sum member will host shows for new and established artists on the last Thursday of every month.

Known as Amstel's Vrushka Nyties, the shows will take place at Zambezi Lounge in Wynburg near Sandton.

The first show kicks off tomorrow with 3Sum, Dr Zwe, Mzeke Nezakhe and Xolani.

"There will be one established act and two upcoming performers. The project will also give upcoming deejays and dancers an opportunity," Makwane says.

He says the project came just at the right time . "It is so difficult for a singer to sit at home, not knowing when they will get a booking . The recession has forced people to cut their entertainment budgets."

The project will also allow musicians to give back to the community.

About 10percent of gate takings will be donated to charity. Tickets cost R50 at the venue.
