THE time has come for more economic participation between India and South Africa - regardless of the global economic recession.
This is according to India's minister of commerce and industry, Anand Sharma, and his South African counterpart, Rob Davies, who addressed the South Africa-India CEOs Forum in Johannesburg yesterday.
Davies said this is a "good partnership since it involves countries that have a similar history and are currently facing the same challenges".
He also expressed his gratitude at the fact that India falls within the top 10 partners trading with South Africa.
Both ministers said Airports Company South Africa's involvement in the rebuilding of India's Mumbai and Delhi airports, as well as the talks currently under way between MTN and Bharti Airtel, indicated the potential of the future economic relations of the two countries.
Sharma said: "Another huge achievement is that SAB Miller has the second largest market-share in India."
Local businessmen who attended the meeting included African Rainbow Minerals executive chairperson Patrice Motsepe and Business Unity SA president Brian Molefe, who is also the CEO of Public Investment Corporation .
