The marathon will take place at Coetzenburg Stadium in Stellenbosch on Saturday morning at 8.10am.
Simanga Morgan Matholeni, Athletics South Africa's projects coordinator, said about 500 runners had registered for the marathon.
"But we are expecting more. By Friday we hope to have between 1200 to 1500 applicants. The online registration deadline was (yesterday) but people can still submit their application by hand until Friday," he said.
The race carries a first prize of R25000.
