THE gospel genre has a new kid on the block. She is Nana Mhlongo from Chesterville in KwaZulu-Natal, whose CD was launched in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, at the weekend.

Wearing a colourful dress with matching shoes, Mhlongo was radiant and endeared herself to a responsive audience. She was in high spirits when she rendered several songs from her new CD, Ngingo Wakho.
Born in Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal, where she started her singing career at 10, Nana, her cousins and friends formed a gospel choir known as the Young Olives and performed at weddings and funerals in and around Chesterville.
The group released three albums, namely, Ndingumoni , iSivunguvungu and Ithemba in 1990, 1993 and 1996 respectively.
Mhlongo moved to Gauteng in 2006 and joined the Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton under Apostle Isaac Sithole.
In Daveyton her soulful, beautiful voice impressed Mike Maswanganye, CEO of MBS Music, who signed her immediately .
On Sunday afternoon her CD launch, held at Oasis of Life, was attended by about 1000 people, among them Bigboy Mlangeni, MD of MBS Music, Apostle Sithole, his wife Sibongile, ANC local councillor Thomas Kgopa and several ministers and well-wishers.
The CD, which includes Entabeni, Ngingo Wakho, Vuso Wakho, Anginakho, Ngemboze and other songs is marketed by Big Music and distributed by Big Fish Music.
