SOLLY Matsimela, owner of National First Division inland stream newcomers Batau FC, has warned his charges that they cannot afford to be complacent after their splendid performance on Sunday and "to start thinking they have arrived".

The Mpumalanga-based side totally outclassed Winnerspark, whom they beat 3-0 at AJ Swanepoel Stadium in Ermelo.

Debutant and former Orlando Pirates midfielder Tebogo Mashaba, Innocent Mnisi and Zweli Manana scored for Batau.

Matsimela said the joy at Sunday's victory must be sustained by a positive and steady performance.

"Performances such as these give hope that we will compete with pride and not just add numbers. I should, however, warn the boys that they cannot, as a team, afford to be complacent following Sunday's performance and start thinking that they have arrived," he said.

The question that remains is whether Batau can be consistent throughout the season. That will be answered after a few more games as other teams take heed of Batau's result against Winnerspark.
