ANC Youth League President Julius Malema, pictured, has told the International Association for Athletics Federations to stop treating Africans as monkeys.

Malema is expected to lead a mass delegation to welcome home Caster Semenya tomorrow. South Africa's golden girl won gold in the 800m at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin, but set off an international hullabaloo over her gender.

Malema told the youth league's regional conference at the Durban University of Technology this weekend that "Caster is not ugly, but nice and lovable".

Malema urged the government to refuse to allow Semenya to be tested.

The IFP has also decried the "humiliating" manner in which the IAAF treated Semenya.

Connie Zikalala, the party's spokesperson on Women Affairs, said it supported the complaint by Parliament's portfolio committee on sport to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights over the gender test ordered for the middle-distance runner.
