Khumalo's trial in the Roodepoort magistrate's court comes after his black BMW Z4 rammed into the back of a taxi travelling to Fourways, Johannesburg, in May last year.
The soccer legend, his female companion, the driver of the taxi and three female passengers, including an eight-months pregnant woman were injured in the accident that occurred on the N1 highway near the Maraisburg off-ramp.
There were no fatalities.
Prosecutor Vincent Machobane said yesterday that the trial would continue next year.
"The case has been postponed to from January 26 to 28. Many witnesses are still going to testify," Machobane said.
"They will include the Johannesburg Metro police who attended to the scene of the accident, doctors who treated Khumalo and laboratory officials.
"Khumalo will also testify after all the witnesses have taken the stand."
On Friday Khumalo's attorney, Johan Pretorius, told the court that it was impossible for Khumalo to have been drunk on the morning of the accident.
Three witnesses, including a Johannesburg emergency services paramedic, Emilian Alves, have already testified that Khumalo was drunk.
Alves said Khumalo was paralytically drunk, reeked of alcohol and could not sit up straight, walk or do anything by himself.
Pretorius argued that Khumalo could not sit up straight because the ambulance chair he was placed on was small and uncomfortable.
Alves said Khumalo was placed on the chair because he and his partner could not move him any further.
Khumalo has pleaded not guilty to the charges
