THEY say a new broom sweeps clean but are the new janitors of the police and prisons departments up to the task?

THEY say a new broom sweeps clean but are the new janitors of the police and prisons departments up to the task?

On Friday we reported on 10 cops who had been suspended in KwaZulu-Natal for purloining confiscated booze they had been supposed to destroy.

These sharp operators allegedly decided to investigate the evidence close up and spent days at work in a haze.

Then there were the two prison warders who allegedly took a convicted prisoner home to his family rather than back to his cell after he testified in court.

The morons were tailed by top cop Piet Beyleveld to the scene and are also being investigated for taking bribes.

Both incidents show how sloppy our security services have become and how shady operators think they can get away with anything.

Their new bosses have a lot to do to prove them wrong.
