CAIRO - More than two dozen suspected Hezbollah spies accused of plotting attacks for the Lebanese militant group have been charged in Egypt.

The 26 suspects are accused of spying for a foreign group, planning attacks against tourists and shipping in the Suez Canal, and sending operatives to Gaza to help militant groups.

Lawyers say the defendants pleaded not guilty in yesterday's hearing in an Egyptian court.

In April, Egyptian security officials said they had uncovered a Hezbollah cell plotting to destabilise the country.

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has admitted sending an agent to supervise shipments to Hamas, but denied planning to endanger Egypt's security.

The trial was postponed to October 26. - Sapa-AP
