Chilemba fight called off

ISAAC "Golden Boy" Chilemba is no longer fighting on Golden Gloves' Night of Gladiators bill at Emperors Palace on September 12.

ISAAC "Golden Boy" Chilemba is no longer fighting on Golden Gloves' Night of Gladiators bill at Emperors Palace on September 12.

His opponent, Douglas "Capone" Otieno, has been ruled out again. The Kenyan, who pulled out of their first fight that was supposed to have taken place in June, is serving a mandatory suspension.

He was knocked out cold in round two last week by Gayrat Ahmedov for the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council light heavyweight title in Kazakhstan.

Chilemba and his manager Jodi Solomons are disappointed.

"I was looking forward to this fight because I have an axe to grind with that guy who could not come and fight me when he had agreed to do so in June," said Chilemba. "But I am told I will be in action on October 31."

Solomons said: "I think it will make Isaac stronger mentally. I am sure he will give his best on the 31st."

Chilemba' s fight has been replaced by a local shootout, a 10 rounder in the cruiserweight division between Ruben Groenewald and Ronnie Lategaan. Both fighters were stopped in their last fights.

Groenewald, the former WBU middleweight and WBF Intercontinental super middleweight champion, was stopped in April by Alexander Frenkel in Germany, while Lategan lost to Jared Lovett in November last year.

Zolani Marali will defend the IBO junior lightweight belt against South Korea's Ji Hoon Kim in the main attraction while Grant Fourie and Jason Bederman will fight for the vacant IBO Africa lightweight title in the main supporting fight.
