Municipal spokesperson Malesela Maubane said it was a way of honouring her.
"But this will not be the first time we do it because Semenya was initially honoured as the municipality's 2009 sports personality of the year," Maubane said.
Yesterday Semenya's family said it was looking forward to welcoming her .
Said Caster's mother, Dorcus: "We can't wait for her to touch base."
