Treat for music lovers at Festival of Champions

MUSIC lovers are in for a great treat at the Transnet Foundation and Sowetan Massed Choir Festival in Johannesburg in October.

MUSIC lovers are in for a great treat at the Transnet Foundation and Sowetan Massed Choir Festival in Johannesburg in October.

One of its major revamps is to make the event an expression of excellence among the country's choirs, their conductors, young choral music composers, arrangers, orchestrators and young choral music artists.

Six championship-winning choirs will share the stage with four choirs in a revamped format that makes this year's showcase a fitting "Festival of Champions".

The champions are Matthews Singers, Belcanto Voices, Gauteng Choristers, South African Police Services Choir, Sounds of the Nation and the Transnet Choir.

The other entertainers will be Vaal Choristers, African Sweet Melodies, Mogale City Chorale and East Rand Chorale. The choirs finesse will be highlighted through their rendition of own choice songs and compositions that made them top in various choral music contests.

Young soloists will be backed by all 10 choirs, and local choral music icon - Mosoeu Michael Moerane - will be honoured with the mass choir rendition of his timeless piece, Ruri.

Our guest artist is Nhlanhla Nciza, pictured , of Mafikizolo fame , who has gone solo and is still making waves on the kwaito music scene.
