Legendary South African musician Caiphus Semenya celebrated his 70th birthday in style this week by setting upa foundation that will run an arts academy.

Legendary South African musician Caiphus Semenya celebrated his 70th birthday in style this week by setting upa foundation that will run an arts academy.

Semenya's birthday celebration was held in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Wednesday evening.

American music supremo Quincy Jones, actor Danny Glover and diplomat Lindiwe Mabuza, the South African ambassador to the UK, also wished him well.

Trustee Gaby Magomola said the Caiphus Semenya Foundation would hold a series of events to raise funds for the National Academy of Africa's Performance Arts.

Among the patrons of the academy are talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, Jones, Glover and Mabuza.

The academy is expected to be launched at the Sandton Convention Centre on November 5.
