The home is situated just off the Golden Highway, near Fun Valley, in a village donated to Mt Carmel Ministries by Rand Water in 2004.
The home takes in orphaned and abandoned children and those placed with them after processing by the justice system. There are 30 children at present who are divided into six families, with a mother and father to supervise each family. The adoptive parents take care of the children full-time and are paid a salary.
"The department of social welfare pays about 67percent of our budget and we have to raise the rest ourselves," said the director of Villa of Hope Zorina Wentworth.
"Our expenses are high since we have to clothe, feed and send the children to school. That is why we are planning to start gardens here to grow food and rear chickens.
"We also plan to renovate the whole area so that we can take in more children, while at the same time improving our financial status."
Wentworth said they were planning to hold a "Do It Day" on September 18 so that the community could come and help them spruce up the area.
"People may come with gardening equipment to start the vegetable beds, help us with renovations or just come with goodies for the children."
Villa of Hope takes in babies and other children up to 18 years old. After 18 they are sent back into the community.
"We have had several children who turned 18 and went out to work for themselves.
"We are working on a youth plan so that once out of matric, we teach the children to budget, drive and to be independent."
There is an infant educentre that takes in children from the home and others from Slovo Park. The centre needs child toilets and a plumber to fit them.
Wentworth is planning to open a learning centre with computers, books and printers.
"We need to nurture the children spiritually, physically and also feed their minds. We plan that one day the president of South Africa will come from Villa of Hope."
