BERLIN - Newly crowned men's world 3000m steeplechase champion Ezekiel Kemboi is hoping his new hairstyle will catch on in his home country of Kenya.

Kemboi, who claimed gold after a six-year wait and in his fourth championships, sported a pattern shaved into his cropped hair as well as gold fingernails.

"About my hairstyle, well, I met a friend of mine from Germany who has been to Kenya and he came to my hotel and I asked him to give me a special haircut," Kemboi said. "I am going (home) tomorrow and I hope the hairstyle catches on." Kemboi also expressed his happiness at having finally broken the bridesmaid's mantle and nailed a top-of-the-podium finish. - Sapa-AFP
