Cop fired over murder and firearm possession

A 24-YEAR-OLD Mpumalanga student constable has been dismissed from duty after allegations of murder and carrying a service firearm without permission.

Seven other full-time police officers were given notice of suspension for alleged corruption - involving bribes from towing service companies.

Sipho Nantsi of eMbalenhle near Evander, who was attached to the Piet Retief police station, allegedly shot and killed Thabo Robert Dlamini, 27, of eMbalenhle with his service firearm on June 13.

They were apparently returning from a local tavern.

Nantsi, the son of a local magistrate, was departmentally and criminally charged after his arrest the same weekend.

He appeared before a departmental disciplinary committee chaired by Superintendent George Tau of Secunda last week Tuesday and refused to testify on the murder and his carrying a state firearm without permission.

Tau said they found him guilty as charged and dismissed him from duty with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, seven police officers charged with corruption involving bribes from towing service companies and the selling of an impounded vehicle back to a suspect, were given letters of intent to suspend them from duty.

Six of them, inspectors Gerhardus Cornelius Glinister, 38, Ngolovane Michael Mnisi, 43, Pieter Laban Khoza, 40, all from Lydenburg, Jeremiah Jerman Fenyane, 47, of Martenshoop near Lydenburg, Hlobogang Abinaar Mashele, 48, and Constable Milton Samuel Mashile, both of Dullstroom, were arrested for allegedly collaborating with towing service companies and receiving kickbacks.

The seventh officer, Constable Mduduzi Theodore Magagula, 25, allegedly sold a vehicle. which was impounded by members of the vehicle identification section in Komatipoort, to the suspect.
